Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in American history. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition, she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and campaigned for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her direct questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
